Privacy policy
What Datauntangler collects, what it never collects, how long anything is kept and how to have it deleted. Written to be read rather than to be survived.
Who this is about
This site and the service on it are operated under the brand Datauntangler, at datauntangler.com. The one contact address for anything in this policy is app@datauntangler.com.
The file you clean in the demo
The cleaning engine on this site runs as JavaScript in your own browser. When you drop a CSV into the demo, the browser reads it from your disk into its own memory and does the work there. The file is not uploaded, not stored, not logged and not seen by us. You can verify this: open your browser network tab, load a file and watch that no request carries it.
Because of that, we hold no copy of anything you cleaned in the demo, and there is nothing for us to delete, hand over or lose.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you enter it to create an account. That is the only field the signup asks for.
- A confirmation code we send you, and the time we sent it, so the code can expire.
- Basic request data that every web service records: an IP address, a browser user agent string and the page that was requested. We keep it to operate the service and to deal with abuse.
- Which button opened the signup, and campaign parameters if you arrived from one, so we know which pages are useful.
What we do not collect
- Files cleaned in the browser demo. They never reach us.
- Names, phone numbers, job titles or company details. We do not ask for them.
- Advertising trackers, or third party analytics that follow you to other sites.
- Payment card numbers. Card details, when there are any, are handled by a payment processor and never touch our servers.
Why we hold it
Your email address is held so we can create your account and send you the things you asked for. Request data is held to keep the service running and secure. We do not profile you, and we do not build an advertising audience out of any of it.
What allows us to hold it
Your email address is held because you asked us to set an account up, so the basis is the agreement between us. Request data, the record of which button opened the signup and the abuse controls are held on our legitimate interest in running a service that stays up and does not get flooded. If we ever wanted to use your address for something you had not asked for, the basis would be your consent and we would ask for it first.
What we never do
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with data brokers or advertisers. We do not use customer files to train any model, on any plan. If that ever changed it would be an opt in you had to actively give, and this page would say so.
Who else is involved
Running a service means using other companies: somewhere to host it, something to send email through, and a payment processor. Each of them only receives what it needs to do its job, and none of them are given data for their own purposes. The current list is available on request and is set out in a data processing agreement for Enterprise customers. Details of how data is handled are on the security page.
How long it is kept
Account data is kept while your account exists and is deleted when you ask us to delete it. Request logs are kept for a short operating window and then rotate out. Files processed on a paid plan are deleted on a schedule after the run finishes, and Enterprise customers can set their own retention window, including deletion as soon as a run completes.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy in a portable format, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete all of it. You can object to anything we hold on legitimate interest, ask us to pause processing while a disagreement is being sorted out, and withdraw a consent you gave without that affecting what happened before you withdrew it. Write to app@datauntangler.com and a person will handle it. There is no form to fill in and no account required to make the request.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area and you think we have handled your data badly, you can also complain to your national data protection authority. You do not have to come to us first, though we would rather you did, because we can usually fix it faster than a regulator can.
Cookies
This site uses the cookies it needs to work: a session cookie and a security token so forms cannot be submitted from another site. There are no advertising cookies and no cross site tracking pixels.
Children
This is a business tool and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that affects what we do with your data is sent to the email address on your account rather than quietly published here.
The policy is short because the file never reaches us
The cleaning engine runs in your browser. Load a messy CSV and watch the network tab stay empty while the diff fills up.
No card required. Your file never leaves your computer.
