Terms of service

What the service is, what you may do with it, what we promise and what we do not. Short, and in the same plain language as the rest of the site.

Last updated 4 September 2026Plain language, no defined-terms appendix

1. Who you are agreeing with

These terms cover your use of datauntangler.com and the service on it, operated under the brand Datauntangler. Where these terms say we or us, that is the brand. The contact address for everything below is app@datauntangler.com.

2. What the service does

Datauntangler reads a data file, proposes changes to it and produces a cleaned copy plus a log of what changed. The browser demo does that work entirely on your own machine. Paid plans process larger files on our infrastructure. Nothing is applied to your data without your approval, and your original file is never modified by us.

3. Using it

  • Use it for lawful purposes, on data you are allowed to process.
  • Do not try to break, overload or circumvent the service, or access another customer's data.
  • Do not resell access to the service as your own product without a written agreement with us.
  • Keep your account credentials to yourself. Seats are per person on paid plans.

4. Your data stays yours

You keep every right in the files you process and in the output they produce. We claim no ownership of them, we do not sell them, and we do not use them to train any model. What we do with data is described in the privacy policy and the security page.

5. Accounts and confirmation

Creating an account takes an email address and a confirmation code we send to it. You are responsible for the address you give us being one you control. We may close an account that is being used to attack the service or to break these terms, and we will say why.

6. Plans and payment

Paid plans are described on the pricing page, with the row allowance, file size and seat count for each. Yearly billing is charged at ten times the monthly price, which is two months free. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that applies where you are. If a price changes, the change applies from your next renewal and never retroactively.

The browser demo is free to use and is not a plan. It has a practical file size limit because it runs in your browser.

7. Cancelling and refunds

You can cancel at any time and the plan runs until the end of the period you have paid for. If something is genuinely broken and we cannot fix it, write to us and we will sort out a refund rather than argue about it.

8. What we promise, and what we do not

We promise to run the service carefully, to tell you the truth about what it does, and to fix what we break. We do not offer an availability guarantee on any plan, and we will not write one into a contract until we can hold it. What Enterprise adds is a named support contact and priority on incidents, which is a commitment about people, not about a percentage.

We do not promise that the engine will find every problem in a file or that every proposal it makes is correct. That is exactly why every change is shown to you for approval before it is applied. You remain responsible for reviewing the proposals and for the data you publish or send on afterwards. To the extent the law allows, the service is provided as it is, and our liability for any claim connected with it is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

9. Availability and changes

Features may be added, changed or retired as the product develops. If a change removes something you rely on, we will tell the email address on your account before it happens rather than after.

10. Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. A material change is emailed to the address on your account. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version.

11. Getting in touch

Everything, including a dispute, starts with an email to app@datauntangler.com. We would rather answer it than escalate it.

Nothing above is a surprise once you have used it

The demo runs on your own machine, asks for nothing and holds nothing back. Try it on the file you are worried about.

No card required. Your file never leaves your computer.
