Data Ladder alternative for file-sized cleanups
Data Ladder makes DataMatch Enterprise, a data matching and cleansing platform that profiles, standardizes, matches and merges records from databases and files, with CASS address verification and a REST API. It is built for large, recurring matching projects. DataUntangler is built for the smaller job most teams actually have this week: one CSV or Excel file that has to be deduped and cleaned before it goes into a CRM, an ERP or a report, with every change shown to you first.
The short answer
Pick DataMatch Enterprise when you are matching millions of records across databases, need CASS certified US address verification, or want matching running on a server behind an API. Pick DataUntangler when the job is a file of up to about 100,000 rows, you want it cleaned today without a sales call or an install, and you need a change log that shows exactly what was merged and rewritten.

The cleaned CSV contains only the changes you approved. The log lists every change, approved or not.
DataUntangler compared with Data Ladder
Every row is a public, category level fact you can check on Data Ladder's own site. What this table deliberately leaves out is set out further down the page.
| DataMatch Enterprise (Data Ladder) | DataUntangler | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A data matching, profiling and cleansing platform | A data cleaning tool for one CSV or Excel file at a time |
| Where it runs | Windows desktop, or the newer web application on a server, in Docker or non Docker builds | In your browser. Nothing to install |
| Data sources | ODBC databases, CSV, JSON and other files | CSV and Excel files you drop in |
| Matching | Deterministic, probabilistic and hybrid match definitions with weights you tune, plus phonetic matching | Email, normalized name and company, then a fuzzy pass, run for you with no setup |
| Address handling | CASS certified US address verification on the address edition | Standardizes US states and country names. No postal verification |
| Scale | Built for millions of records; Data Ladder reports a 10 million record file matched in 41 to 43 minutes in its own August 2026 testing | Up to 25MB or about 100,000 rows per file on the Analyst plan |
| Review before changes | Match results and entity graphs you inspect, then merge purge rules build the golden record | Every proposed merge and cell edit shown as a row level diff you approve |
| Record of what changed | Exports of match results and survivorship outputs | A change log you download as its own CSV |
| Automation and API | REST API, command line and scheduler | None. You run the pass when the file arrives |
| Pricing model | Quote based, through sales, with a free trial of the desktop product | One published flat plan with unlimited files |
What DataMatch Enterprise is genuinely better at
Scale, first. DataMatch Enterprise is built to match records across whole databases, and the release Data Ladder published in September 2026 moved it from a single user Windows install to a server based web application, in Docker and non Docker builds, with a REST API, so matching can run on a server and be called from Python, Java or Node. Data Ladder says the rebuilt engine matched a 10 million record test file in 41 minutes on one run and 43 on a second. DataUntangler does not play in that range. It cleans a file of up to about 100,000 rows, and if your problem is ten million customer records spread across three systems, it is the wrong tool.
Match tuning, second. DataMatch Enterprise lets you build several match definitions, weight each field, set confidence thresholds, and mix exact, fuzzy, phonetic and numeric range matching. A data quality team that has to get the false positive rate on a householding project down to a number it can defend will want that control. DataUntangler runs a fixed sequence, email first, then normalized name and company, then a fuzzy pass, and shows you the clusters. You approve or reject them, but you do not tune weights.
US postal addresses, third. The address edition of DataMatch Enterprise is CASS certified, which matters if you mail at scale and want USPS presort discounts. DataUntangler repairs state names to two letter codes, standardizes country names and puts leading zeros back on ZIP codes, and that is all. It does not check that an address exists.
Why teams look for a Data Ladder alternative
Most people who search for one are not unhappy with how DataMatch Enterprise matches. They are looking at a smaller job than the one the product is sized for, and the same few situations come up again and again.
The most common one is a one time cleanup with a deadline. A migration lead has a customer or vendor extract that has to be loaded into NetSuite, Salesforce or HubSpot on Friday, and the duplicates and broken formats need fixing first. A quote based enterprise platform means a demo, a quote and an approval cycle, and the file is due before any of that finishes. The second is a team that does not own a Windows server or a Docker host and does not want to. The third is an analyst who needs to show a manager exactly which rows were merged and which cells were rewritten, in a file the manager can open. Our data scrubbing software page covers that pre-migration job in detail, rule by rule.
Formatting problems travel with the duplicates
On a real export, duplicates are rarely the only problem. The same file that has Acme Corp twice usually has dates in three formats, amounts stored as text with dollar signs, ZIP codes that lost a leading zero in Excel, and names that read Café instead of Café because somebody opened a UTF-8 file as Windows-1252. Matching on dirty values is also worse matching: two rows for the same customer only look identical after the casing, spacing and encoding are fixed.
DataMatch Enterprise handles standardization as a step you configure before matching. DataUntangler proposes the formatting fixes and the duplicate clusters in the same pass, on the same screen, so the person approving the merge can see that 03/04/2026 and 4 Mar 2026 became the same date, and why two rows now match. For a deeper look at how the duplicate step scores near matches, see fuzzy matching.
How a file-sized cleanup runs in DataUntangler
- 1 Drop the CSV or Excel file into the data cleaning tool at the top of this page. It reads the columns and works out which ones hold emails, names, companies, dates, amounts, states and ZIP codes. The original file is never changed.
- 2 Read the duplicate clusters. Each one lists the rows it grouped, the reason they matched and the most complete row picked as the survivor.
- 3 Approve or reject the formatting fixes: dates to one format, currency symbols stripped, casing and whitespace cleaned, broken characters repaired, US states and countries standardized, leading zeros restored.
- 4 Download the cleaned file and the change log CSV. Load the first into your CRM, ERP or accounting system, and keep the second as the record of what the cleanup did.
Data Ladder vs WinPure vs a browser file cleaner
These get shortlisted together, and they are three different sizes of product. DataMatch Enterprise and WinPure both began as Windows desktop matching software for data quality teams, and both now reach toward server and cloud deployment; they compete on match accuracy, address verification and scale. We compared WinPure on its own page, the WinPure alternative.
A browser file cleaner sits below both. It has no database connectors, no API and no postal verification, and it is not trying to. What it offers instead is a clean file this afternoon, a published price, and a review screen that a finance lead or a RevOps manager can use without training. If you are choosing between all three, the honest test is the size of the job: millions of records across systems points to the first two, one file on your desktop points to the third. The wider field is laid out on data quality tools.
Who switches, and who should not
The people who reach for a file cleaner instead of DataMatch Enterprise tend to be operations analysts, RevOps and marketing operations managers, finance teams preparing a vendor or customer master, and consultants running a one off migration for a client. They need the file right, they need to show what changed, and they do not need a matching platform once the file is loaded. When the matched rows have to collapse into one record per customer, that step is entity resolution, and the plain duplicate job is covered on data deduplication tools.
The people who should stay on DataMatch Enterprise are data quality teams matching across databases, anyone who needs CASS verified mailing addresses, and anyone who needs matching behind an API on a schedule. DataUntangler has none of that and will not add it. If you are unsure which group you are in, drop the next file you were going to clean into the demo above and see whether the diff covers the job.
The limits of this comparison, stated on the page
A comparison page written by one of the two products is worth exactly as much as what it admits.
No prices for Data Ladder
We have not verified their pricing page today, and a stale price quoted by a competitor is worse than no price at all.
No scores and no stars
There is no rating on this page, in the markup or anywhere else on this site, because there are no reviews behind one.
Category facts only
Every row of the table is something published on their own site: what it runs on, how it is licensed, how you drive it.
